Administrator Welcomes the NCOP Delegation to Oudtshoorn

k chettyOudtshoorn, 18 April 2016 – The Administrator of the Greater Oudtshoorn, Mr. Kam Chetty welcomes the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) public feedback meeting to be held in Oudtshoorn on Tuesday, 19 April 2015.

“Residents will receive feedback on the issues submitted last year’s Taking Parliament to the People (TPTP) meetings held by the NCOP in Oudtshoorn,” says Chetty. “Feedback will be provided to by all three spheres of Government on various issues such as Human Settlements, Transport and Water Waste Treatment Plant amongst others. Feedback on the Oudtshoorn progress update will also be presented.”

“The Oudtshoorn Municipality was placed under administration in terms section 139(1)(b) of the Constitution in August 2015; a month later the Provincial intervention was amended by the Western Cape Provincial Executive to give full executive authority of the Oudtshoorn Municipal Council to the Administrator. The feedback prepared by the Administrator, Mr. Chetty will highlight the progress made and challenges experienced during the past Eight months of controlling the Oudtshoorn Municipality,” Chetty added.

Permanent delegates to the NCOP are visiting the Eden District as from 18 to 20 April to Report Back on progress made regarding undertakings taken during last year’s Taking Parliament to the People Programme.

The multidisciplinary delegation will visit projects in each of the seven municipalities in the district to assess developments and later report back at a public meeting.

Oudtshoorn's meeting will be held as follows:

  • Date : Tuesday, 19 April 2016
  • Venue : Bongolethu Community Hall
  • Time : 17h00

The meeting will be attended by the NCOP delegates, Members of the Western Cape Parliament, the Administrator, Councillors from the local municipalities and other stakeholders. Other local municipalities to be visited are: Bitou, George, Hessequa, Kannaland, Knysna and Mossel Bay.

The oversight visits will be conducted at different schools, hospitals, housing projects, and water purification facilities among others.
