Re-Opening of Registering Authority & Vehicle Testing Functions at Traffic Department
Friday, 06 July 2012 13:28

traffic_2The public in the Greater Oudtshoorn can now access most of the services rendered by the Oudtshoorn traffic department as the offices reopened today, 03 July 2012 following about a week and a half closure due to a police investigation into the department.

According to the Municipal Manager, Mr. Thandekile Mnyimba, the registering authority and vehicle testing functions have been reopened while the driving testing centre is still closed pending the completion of the investigation which is still underway. “The public in the Greater Oudtshoorn area can also have access to renewal of licences and application and issuing of professional driving permits (PDP) services.” Mr. Mnyimba adds.

This follows talks the municipality had with the SAPS and the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works last week to open sections that are not necessarily affected by the police investigation into the traffic department. In a meeting held on 25 June 2012 between Oudtshoorn Municipality, SAPS and the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works indications were that the investigation would still continue for two weeks and thereafter the entire traffic department would be reopened.

The Greater Oudtshoorn Municipal Traffic Department has been temporarily closed since Friday, 22 June 2012, subsequent to an unexpected police investigation into the premises after allegations of fradulent activities attached to certain services rendered by the traffic department.
